An overview of DNS developments: DNSSEC, new TLDs and Universal
Acceptance

In this talk, Patrick Jones, ICANN Senior Director for Global
Stakeholder Engagement, will provide an overview of the latest
developments in the Domain Name System, including the growth of DNS
Security Extensions (DNSSEC), new generic top-level domains and the
challenges with Universal Acceptance of new top-level domains. There
are now nearly 300 million domain names worldwide and over 1100 top-
level domains (including everything from .apple, .paris, .pl to
.everyone in Japanese). Although applications are struggling to
recognize these new extensions, but the Universal Acceptance project is
aimed at improving the recognition of new domains in email, browsers
and applications.

Patrick has been active in the Internet community for over 15 years and
has worked in ICANN’s registry, security and global engagement teams.
